Industrial Hoists Cases

Scanclimber by Tractel's industrial hoists are used in many different industrial settings such as mines, storage silos, power plants and shipyards.

A uniquely designed Scanclimber hoist provides access to pylons on the Rędziński Bridge in Polan, which is a cable-stayed bridge spanning the Oder river in Wrocław.

The Rędziński Bridge

The bridge is one of the largest concrete structures in the world, with a total area of almost 70.000 m² and a pylon with the height of 122 meters.

The pylon, which stands on an island in the middle of the Oder River, is in the shape of the letter ‘H’. There are two independent multi-lane roadways from the pylon — this is a unique solution not applied anywhere else yet. The total length of the bridge is 1742 meters.

More than 110.000 m³ of concrete and more than 180.000 tons of steel was required for the construction. More than 12.000 m³ of concrete and more than 4300 tons of steel was used to construct the pylon alone.

Requirement of Hoist

Scanclimber installed a SC1000K hoist hoist inside the bridge's pylon. This was a specially configured unit dedicated for concrete wall inspections with a lifting capacity of 1000kg. The elevator climbs a tall mast of 56 meters, which is curved and leans at an angle of 12°. The Scanclimber SC1000K was equipped with a special cage leveling system providing a steady lift through the entire mast.

Due to the limited space for the elevator within the pylon, combined with the changing angle of the mast, it was necessary to use innovative cable guiding with an automatic guiding system. The hoist was also equipped with a secondary power supply, which provides both lighting and an emergency lowering facility in case of emergency situations.
