Construction Hoists Cases

Scanclimber® by Tractel® hoists are suitable for handling of passengers and materials.

In the spring of 2008 Scanclimber's partner in Paris, Sky Accès, was given the order for a SC2032F construction hoist for transporting passengers and materials. It was to be erected at one of Europe's most iconic landmarks - the Eiffel Tower.

The SC2032 was needed for the transportation of staff and materials for the refurbishment of the restaurant on the first level of the Eiffel Tower, at the height of 62 meters. The hoist was used separately from the Eiffel Tower's permanently installed hoist which is mainly used for the transportation of visitors.

A unique challenge for this project was the securing of the hoist, with a lifting capacity of two tons, at only one anchoring point at the height of 61 meters, something which had never been done before.

Working together with Scanclimber engineers, a solution was developed using three mast stacks which were secured together in the form of triangle, providing sufficient stability. The design had to consider storm winds of up to 200 km/h as well as the loadings to be encountered during erection and dismantling. A specially fabricated foundation was developed, designed and produced, in order to meet these requirements. The frame, with all three mast stacks attached, was integrated into the 25 m² foundation weighing nearly 50 tons. This served as a counterweight during the erection and later provided load distribution for the construction phase.

The Scanclimber SC2032F hoist, with its load capacity of two tons and large dimensions of 3.2 m x 1.5 m, provided the method for vertical transportation throughout the 5 month refurbishment period of this Parisian landmark.
