The Electrownia Dolna Odra power plant was built in the 1970s. The plant's operation started in 1974 and it was completely operational in 1977. The power plant contains six blocks with the total production capacity of 1362 MW of electricity and 100.81 MW of thermal energy. It is a conventional power plant with blocks of open cooling systems. The plant went through a comprehensive modernization program in the 1990s for its primary energy devices.
Requirement for Scanclimber's hoist
The requirements set by the European Union's Ministry of Environment regulations demanded that the discharged pollutants from industrial processes and operations must be controlled and monitored. There was a need to regularly monitor the plant's emissions in order to follow these guidelines. For this purpose, Scanclimber's hoists seemed to be the most feasible solution for the authorities due to their modular design and adaptability.
Scanclimber's SC500K hoist was selected for the plant's chimney. The hoist was mounted outside of the 200 meter tall chimney. The hoist, however, is only lifted up to a height of 120 meters. The SC500K successfully serves periodic maintenance work for the chimney and accesses the equipment installed within the chimney in order to monitor the plant's emissions. The hoist has been used several times a month.
